Economic causes and emigration of a number of boys to Bengal schools in order to avail themselves of the easier examination of the Calcutta University and to escape from the new compulsory papers in Geography and History of the Patna University are advanced as causes by some while others complain of want of seats for students in the existing schools and the stiff character of the Matriculation cu [...] In the Bihar and Orissa Government Resolution dated the 7th January 1920 on the Report on the Progress of Education in Bihar and Orissa for the year 1918-19 the following remarks are :nade : Although there was a very considerable increase in the funds placed at the disposal of local bodies for prim iry education the number of schools fell from 25 827 to 25 652 and the number of pupils from 711 [...] Many of the problems of secondary and university education have already been brought into prominence by the report of the Calcutta University Commission ; and the Senate and the Syndicate of the Patna University have during the past year been engaged on a comprehensive examinati )n of the recommendation of that commission—and their final proposals on this matter will be of the greatest value to Go [...] Daring the last session of the last Council at Eanchi the Hon'ble Babu Braja Sundar Das asked the following questions : the Government be pleased to state district by district the damage done in Orisa by the Hoods of July and August 1920 under the following heads :— (a) The number of breaches in the protected and unprotected embanknients as well as the bank.; of rivers in the Division (b) Th [...] Sir the loss was so great specially after the scarcity that people could hardly pay the rents and in the district the numbers of petty landlords are greater than the big landlords and the landlords I believe will not be able specially after the scarcity on account of loss and damage done by the last flood to pay the revenue ; so the only course left to relieve the distress is for the remis
