WHEREAS by section 66 of the Government of India Act it is among other things enacted that provision may be made by the Indian Legislature for the application to the naval forces raised by the Governor General in Council of the Naval Discipline Act subject to such modifications and adaptations as may be made by the said Legislature to adapt the Act to the circumstances of India ; AND WHEREAS it is [...] (9) In section 45 - (i) after the word " death " where it first occurs the words " or penal servitude for life " shall be inserted and (ii) (a) for the word " manslaughter " the words " cupable homicide not amounting to murder " (b) for the words " sodomy with man or beast " the words " an unnatural offence " and (c) for the words" indecent assault " the words" attempt to commit an unnatur [...]. (22) In the definition of " officer " in section 86 after the words " Royal Marines " the words " and shall include also a person holding any such position in the Indian Naval Volunteer Reserve during and in respect of the time when he is serving in the Indian Navy " shall be inserted."PART VI] THE CALCUTTA GAZETTE JANUARY 4 1934. [...] Section 66 further empowers the Indian Legislature in applying the Naval Discipline Act to the forces and ships raised and provided by the Governor General in Council to make such modifications and adapttions in the Act as it may think fit in order to adapt the Act to the circumstances of India including such adaptations as may be so made for the purpose of authorising or requiring anything [...] Clause 3 sub-clauses (2) to (6).—These provide wherever necessary for the performance by the Governor General in Council or by officials of the Government of India of functions which under the English Act are performed by the Admiralty or other departments of His Majesty's Government or by officials of the British Government ; and also for the substitution in certain places of " British India
