S. 1033 The Gazette of Pakistan EXTRAORDINARY PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY KARACHI THURSDAY FEBRUARY 12 1953 GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN MINISTRY OF COMMERCE NOTIFICATIONS Karachi the 11th February 1953 No. [...] 339/330(3-53).—In exercise of the powers conferred by susection (1) of section 3 of the Imports and Exports (Control) Act 1950 (XXXIX of 1950) the Central Government is pleased to direct that Open General Licence No. [...] 8 (17) IETC/48 dated the 30th January 1948 shall be cancelled with immediate effect : Provided that goods of the description included in the said Open General Licence shall be allowed to be imported from the countries from which they could be imported thereunder up to the 10th March 1953 without any licence. [...] 55/1/53-Police I.—WHEREAS it is expedient to hold an enquiry into the incidents and disturbances which occurred in Karachi on the 7th January 1953 and subsequent days ; Now THEREFORE in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Public Inquiries Act (Sind Act II of 1940) as applicable to the Karachi Administration the Central Government are hereby pleased to appoint a Court presided [...] Justice W. Vellani (i) to enquire into and report on the incidents and disturbances in Karachi on the 7th January 1953 and subsequent days ; (ii) to report whether the firing by the Police on the 8th January 1953 was necessary ; and (iii) to report whether or not the force used by the Police was in excess of what was required to restore order.
