(2) The Local Government shall appoint one of the mebers to be the Chairman of the Committee and shall publish the navaes of the Chairman and members of the Committee in the Calcutta Gazette. [...] (3) The first meeting of the Committee shall be called by the Chairman within two weeks from the publication of the names of the members in the Calcutta Gazette."130 THE CALCUTTA GAZETTE SEPTEMBER 11 1930. [...] The assessment to rates taxes and fees made or proposed to be made by the Corporation of Calcutta in respect of the Garden Reach area under Part IV of the Calcutta Municipal Act 1923 whilst that area was under the administration of the Corporation so far as they relate to holdings which were entered in the assessment lists of the old Garden Reach Municipality at the time of its amalgamation [...] Except as the Local Government may otherwise by notification in the Calcutta Gazette direct all contracts or agreements and leases entered into and given by the Corportion of Calcutta in respect of and solely for the Garden Reach area whilst under the administration of the Corpoitition may so far as they are outstanding at the date of the commencment of the working of the said reconstitu [...] The area was amalgamated with Calcutta in the teeth of vehement opposition and against the deliberate and considered opinions and recommendations to the contrary of the Amalgamation Commission appointed by the Government the then District Magistrate of 24-Parganas and the Commissioners of the old Garden Reach Municipality.
