papers :— (1) Copy of a letter dated the 25th August 1947 addressed to the Secretary of Labour Department Government of West Bengal forwarded to the President of the Union; (2) letter addressed to the President of the Union on 28th August 1947; proceedings of a meeting between the Manager and the President of the Union held on 5th September 1947; (4) the letter addressed to the President of the [...] But the fact remains that the Company referred to the letter of the 8th -October in th letter of the 13th October and to the letter of th 13th October in the letter of the 14th October. [...] In the letter of 8th October 1947 addrepsed by the Manager of the Company to the Mill Manager the Manager seems to have sincerely intended to consult the Works Committee as to how the rtrenchment could be effected with the minimum of hardship to the workers. [...] The fact remains that although detemination of the size of the working force was within the exclusive jurisdiction of the managment and although the management had no obligtion to invite opinion of the Union as to how the retrenchment could be effected the management in its anxiety to lessen the hardship of the wormen invited the opinion of the Works Committee how the retrenchment cou [...] The management has on the other hand explained to the President of the Union the reasons for the fall in the production.
