On the east and south sides of the citadel the mass of ruins sinks to ro and 15 feet in height but it is twice the size of the citadel and is no doubt the remains of the old city. [...] Under the Mysore kings the tract was formed into the Patna Ashtagram and Maisur Ashtagram treluks the former to the north of the river and the latter to the south. [...] Valley ; on the east by the mountains which are ihabited by Khaintis Singphos and various Naga tribes and by the Burmese frontier where it marches with that of the State of Manipur ; on the south by the Chin Hills the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the State of Hill Tippera ; and ofi the west by the Bengal Districts of Tippera Mymensingh and Rangpur the State of Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri [...] The BRAHMAPUTRA flows through the centre of this plain and receives in its course the drainage of the Himalayas on the north and the Assam Range on the south. [...] The KALANG receives the KAPILI which brings to it a large part of the drainage of the Mich the North Cachar and the Jaintia Hills and the DIGRU from the Khasi Hills.
