Rhomboidal in shape with a length of 108 miles from soutwest to north-east and an extreme breadth from north to south of eighty-seven miles Nasik is bounded on the north by the Pimpalner and Dhulia sub-divisions of Khandesh ; on the east by the Chälisgaon sub-division of the same district and the Daulatabad division of the Nizam's dominions ; on the south by the Kopargaon Sangamner and Ako [...] But below in the country itself the frequency of the valleys cutting off all but the narrowest view the bareness of the teak forest except for a few months in the year the small number of inhabitants and the poverty of the villages tend to make Peint desolate and monotonous. [...] Both these rise in the Anjaniri rangb the former in a hill to the south of the fort the latter from the summit of the fort itself. [...] A curious feature in the geology of the district is the absence of the laterite which caps the summits of the hills to the south. [...] At Igatpuri on the other hand which is on the line of the Sahyadris and within the influence of the cloud bank that always forms against the lofty range of Kalsubai and Alang-Kulang the fall varies from sixteight to 148 and averages about 125 inches.2 The same conditions exist in the Konkan Ghat Maim in the Nisik sub. division which is affected by the mass of hills to which -Trimbak Anjan
