The vital statistics from 1912 to 1917 show a steady increase its the number of births and with the exception of 1913 a decrease in the number of deaths but in 1918 the rate per 1 000 in the number of deaths rose from 28 to 87 and in 1918 the rate per 1 000 in the number of births fell from 47 to 40 and in 1919 to 35. [...] The policy of Government is to reduce the number of shops and increase the duty with the hope of restricting consumption. [...] The figures of the average receipts from opium and charas and of the average consumption of these drugs are given in the list of tables. [...] The financial stringency of the years following the war has had its effect on the activities of the District Board but through careful management the Board was able to carry ou without a deficit till the year 1923-24. [...] The feature of the monsoon of 1915 was the very uneven distribution of the rainfall during the month of June insufficient rain was received for agricultural operations.
