Gazetteer of the Province of Sind Larkana District

1919

It is bounded on the north by the Upper Sind Frontier District and the Sukkur District on the east by the river Indus and on the west by the territory of His Highness the Khan of Xalat : at the south it narrows considerably and intrudes into the Karachi District. [...] Between the hills and the Indus the country may properly be described as a broad shallow since the middle line from north to south is considerably below the level of the Indus on the one side and the base of the hills on the other. [...] To the west canal irrgation is restricted by the gradual rising of the country in the direction of the hills with the result that this piece of country which is known as the kacha ' assumes the bare and dreary aspect of pat. [...] The district is rich in dhancts Or lakes fed by the surplus Manehhar Lake and of the canals from the east and of the Dhands. [...] 15 bank of the Nara has a general fall towards the depression which lead the drainage of the district southward and then rises again to the open and elevated plain at the foot of the hills.
