At one time it seemed doubtful whether some of the more important forms could possibly be printed and distributed in time to be of any use for the final enumeration; but once they were in the hands of the press the work was put through with astonishing rapidity and the inconvenience felt by the district census authorities owing to the late receipt of most of the forms was reduced to a minimum. [...] As the registers of the present census have been preserved in the district offices the best plan is probably to call for an early report from district census officers of the actual requirements in the light of the previous experience. [...] If all the enumerators are set to work simultaneously in numbering the houses of their own blocks the block lists will be the original documents and the house lists will be a consolidated copy of all the block lists in the circle.) The simplest and in my view the most satisfactory suggestion for removing the uncertainty about these forms is that the term Block List " should be discontinued alt [...] The final census took place according to plan on the night of the 26th February and in view of the vicissitudes of the earlier stages of the operations it is greatly to the credit of the District Census Officers and their staff that this fact can be placed on record. [...] The figures of the last district of all were received on the night of the 4th March (just six days"15 after the final enumeration) and the consolidated figures for the whole province were telegraphed to the Census Commissioner the next day.
