Census of India 1911. United Provinces of Agra and Oudh. Report.

1912

This is due chiefly to the greater detail in which such subjects as density and the movment of the population have been treated to the greater complexity of the sujects dealt with in the chapters on religion and caste to the discussion of marriage customs in Chapter VII and to certain additions to the chapter on occupation. [...] The Debra portion the famous Dun is the garden of the United Provinces ; it lies between the Siwalik and the Himalaya ranges and pãrtly on the lower slopes of both. [...] The greater part of these two divisions belong to the Jumna-Ganges Doab though the three Rohilkhand districts lie entirely north of the Ganges and the whole of the Oudh districts between the Ganges and Ghagra. [...] The middle portion from the Ganges to the Son and consisting of the tahsils of Mirzapur Chakia (in the Benares State) Chunar and the greater part of Robertsganj belongs to the Vindhya Plateau. [...] The mean divisional densities may be taken as fairly correctly representing the density of the major part of the division but the district density does not similarly represent the density of the major part of the district.
