[...] As it is desirable at this stage to indicate the nature of the statistical material available in regard to the population of the cities dealt \ vith in the present report a list of the tables for the three cities is given here. [...] The original system was that the cost of enumeration should be borne by the municipalities of the cities concerned and the cost of abstraction and compilation by Government. [...] The increased cost of enumeration in Bombay was the result of the civil disobedience movement which caused a general apathy of the public towards the Census and necessitated the employment of a hired staff of enumerators and supervisors. [...] For statistical purposes the population for the successive years was obtained by adding 1 /10 of the difference between the population figures of 1921 and 1911 to the estimated population of the previous year.
