MEMOIRS OF THE GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA Paleontologia Indica BEING FIGURES AND DESCRIPTIONS OF THE ORGANIC REMAINS PROCURED DURING THE PROGRESS OF THE GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA, PUBLISHED BY ORDER OF THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA. [...] S. (1) Introduction 1 (2) The development of the Cambrian System in Spiti 2 (3) Description of the Species 4 (4) List of the fossils 59 (5) Vertical distribution of the fossils 60 (6) Composition of the fauna 61 (7) Classification of the beds 62 (8) Cambrian beds in Asia 62 (9) Relations of the Cambrian fauna of Spiti 64 (10) Correlation of the Spiti beds 65 (1) INTRODUCTION. [...] A species which is very closely allied to ours is A. tumiclosus Hall and Whitfield,4 from the Cambrian of Nevada and the Yellowstone ; the simple unsegmented axis of the pygidium with its tubercle, and the characters of the glabella, as well as the general convexity of the species produce a strong resem- blance. [...] The cheeks, even when highly magnified, show nothing of the sort, but at most a fine punetation, which however is mainly due to the structure of the test. " Our specimen is devoid of the free cheeks, but it shows all the other characters of the head described by Redlich, with the exception of the ornamentation which may be wanting owing to its state of preservation. [...] Matthew calls attention to the points of resemblance which it possesses to Bathynotus holopyga, Hall, 1 from the Middle Cambrian (Georgia Formation) of Vermont, but the number of segments in the thorax (11) and the characters of the pygidium are completely different.
