I am asked to speak a few words about the prospects of the employment of the educated middle class men in the sugar indus- try of the country. [...] It you study the his- tory of those communities and nations that have made their mark in any sphere of life you will find that the struggle for exis- tence has always been the fundamental urge which has given rise to initiative, enterprise, the capacity to bear suffering and the whole-hearted devotion to work and the will to succeed in the midst of all obstructions, obstacles, failures and disappo [...] It was due to the sugar industry that the danger of agrarian revolution that threatened the United Pro- vinces and Bihar in the first quinquennium of the present thirties disappeared. [...] In the few words that I have addressed to you this evening I have briefly indicated the oppor- tunities that are offered by the sugar industry to the educated unemployed of the country. [...] But as I have already said in the earlier part of my speech the problem has assumed such serious proportions and is embedded so deep in the circumstances of the society that the contribution that the sugar in- dustry can claim to the solution of this problem can but be a modest one.
