The objection to the use of serum and virus in conjunction is that the treatment produces a varying percentage of mortalities from Anthrax. [...] 248-271. 200 ANTHRAX The combination of serum and a vaccine consisting of an attenu- ated culture of Anthrax is said to produce an active immunity, without the danger which follows the use of the unmodified virus. [...] In these cases the attenuated culture appears to gradually recover its virulence in the body of the sheep and instead of producing an active immunity it in time results in death. [...] In the animals which did succumb to the disease after the inoculation of the vaccine, the fatal issue was delayed for several days. [...] 21 „ CONCLUSIONS : (1) The method of immunisation against Anthrax by means of the simultaneous injection of serum With the in- oculation of all attenuated culture is not free from risk.
