The spirit of nationalism stimulated by the war, the racial bitterness engendered by the Punjab disturbances, the bitter resentment of the Muhammadans over the delay in announcing terms of peace and their apprehension that they might prove unfavourable to Turkey which found vent in the Xhilafat movement, the disappoint- ment of the extreme section of politicians with the Reforms, and the economic [...] Indication of the growing strength of the extremist element in the movement was to be found in the change of the Congress creed which left the definition of the word Swaraj indefinite and omitted all references to the ,British connection.
