The Commission arrived quietly on the 20th, and were well received by the representatives of the large section's of the People which preferrOd co-operation and courtesy to the Congress policy. [...] The questions -at issue were familiar to most of the members of the Council, and the debates were) marked not only by the success with which the clauses weredeTended by the Revenue Alember and his official supporters but also by the . capable presentation of their views by other members. [...] During the last part of the year the energies of r'the Swaraj 'party were absorbed in preparations for the Calcutta meeting of the Indian National Congress and of the exhibition to be held in conjunction with it. [...] Meanwhile after some stone-throwing at a passing engine and the signal Cabin, the strikers on the east side of the ling were' making their way ,up the eastern approach to the bridge over the railway near the sheds which was at the time guarded by a police picket. [...] The accused appealed to the High Court agaimit the -sentence and fine, and the Government applied to the High Court to have the sentence enhanced.
