It may be noted that the last house is,of some importance in the educational history of Bengal ; in it the Hindu College was formally opened in 1817 and in it the Duff College was first located, There was then no good school in Calcutta, except the Hindu College and the Calcutta Society's School in the northern quarter of the town to which the sons of well-to-do Hindus would be sent for education.
