Varieties. —Only 11 of the 16 varieties under cultivation in the previous year were grown, the remaining five having been discarded on account of susceptibility to " mosaic. " Although the season was abnormal, owing to the prolonged hot weather and failure of the north-east monsoon, conditions for growth on the station except in the latter part of the season were good. [...] The harvest of the plots, the figures of which are given in Table IX, shows that the yield in the case of the two series is practically identical. [...] 66'33 2'2 J 61'74 2'12"17 The girth of the thick and medium canes grown in the Gayeti district varies considerably and in the case of the former, a larger quantity of megass goes through the mill which necessitates the provision of a larger crushing surface than is required in the case of thinner canes. [...] mill is provided with a more efficient splitting roller than the Chattanooga, and although the diameter of the expressing rollers is the same, the height of that of the Chattanooga is 2 less than in the case of the R. N. [...] This station is situated on the southern bank of the Samalkota canal, from which it is irrigated, about half a mile from the Samalkota Railway station on the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway and lies in the northern extremity of the deltaic area of the G Odfivari district, oh the line of junction of that area with the lighter soils of the uplands.
