In his report embody- ing the results of his enquiries on the west coast, he laid emphasis on the restricted exploitation of the sea, the inefficiency of the boats and nets, the difficulty of landing catches in a sound and untainted condition and the treatment of fish when landed. [...] (2) The establishment of another station on the west coast to improve the salting and drying, the smoking and the canning of fish, and the manufacture of fish-oil and guano. [...] Headquarters offee. —A portion of the building belonging to the Bank of Madras in the Mount Road, Madras, had been tem- porarily placed at the disposal of the Director of Fisheries until the branch of the bank should be opened there. [...] The transfer of the business to one of the applicants has been recommended to Government and the orders of the Government are awaited. [...] Owing to the failure of the contractors for the, purchase of the shells to pay the value of the Tinnevelly and Rainnad shells for the season 1918-19, the Government sanctioned the filing of a suit for its recovery ; the total amount recoverable was nearly Rs.
