WE PUBLISH BELOW A REPRESENTATION FROM THE Burma Bar to the General Council of the English Bar for their co-operation on the question of the appointment of CiVilians by the Government of India to fill up the Chief Judgeships in the Chief Courts in this country and the action taken by the Bar Council in the matter. [...] The above letter having been referred by the Council to the Executive Committee for consideration that Committee reported thereon as follows :— The office of Chief Judge of the new Chief Court of Lower Burma has since the date of the above letter been filled up by the appointment of a Member of the Indian Civil Service. [...] G. S. Hayes and others are the Defendants); and upon reading the explanations of the abovnamed A. IL N. and S. dated respectively the 12th 20th 21st and 27th August 1900 submited by them to this Court pursuant to the order of this Court dated the 31st of July 1900 passed in the course of the hearing of the said appeal from Order No. [...] His Lordship the CHIEF JUSTICE in delivering the judgment of the Court observed :—That the Court was unable to believe the statement of A. that he had no interest under the agreement ;" on the cotrary he was condemned out of his own mouth by his letter (dated the 12th November 1899) to his friend H. and that the expressions in the letter referred to his having a substantial interest in the p [...] He will be produced before me es directed in the warrant on the 25th February When evidence will be taken." After the disposal of the appeals in the murder case (Empress v.
