A sound lawyer argil thoroughly conscientious in the discharge of his judicial duties he belonged to that class of judges who have been mainly instrnmental in raising the Calcutta High Court in the estimation of the people of Bengal both by an impartial administration of.justice and the upholding of the dignity of the Court' when occasion required it. [...] In a charge of attempt to cheat the omission to indicate the person on whom the attempt was to be made and the manner of cheating was held under the circumtances of the ease to have prejudiced the defence. [...] The decision is commendable but does it carry out the intent of the legislature as expressed in the amendment of the section by the new Code. [...] 304 does not apply where there is n.) accident or mistake in the delivery of the verdict and the mistake lies in the undestanding of the law by the jury. [...] In the absence of express directions of the donor devolution according VI custom is the general rule in the case of public endowments whilst inheritance by the donor's heir is the exception whereas in is case of private.endowments the presumption is in favour of inhertance.
