On the reopening of the Calcutta High Court On the 19th of November last the Hon’ble the Chief Justice and the Judges’ of the High Court held a reception in the Judges’ Library at 10 A. M. to which the Advocates and Vakils of the High Court were requested to attend. [...] “Our Day.” We invite attention to the appeal which has been forwarded to us by a Committee which has been formed representative of the various braches of the Legal Profession for the purpose of collecting funds for “Our Day.” The Hon’ble the Chief Justice of Bengal is the President of this committee and his Private Secretary is the Honorary Secretary. [...] With regard to the former His Excellency announced that at the instance of the Government of Bengal the Goernment of India and the Secretary of State have agreed to appoint a Committee of Indians; and Europeans presided over by one of the Judges of the King’s Bench Division of the High Court of England to sift the information at the disposal of Government and to return a verdict as to whether [...] Both the Court of first instance and the Appellate Court can go into the question whether the executive order is justified under the terms of the Act and the facts of the case. [...] 91 of the Evidence Act it may to the only admissible evidence of the nature and terms of the transaction though that section would not exclude proof of the fact of delivery of possession.
