Laud Acquisition case Assessment principle of Municipal assessment lxxx (See Index.) THE SPEECH DELIVERED BY THE MOVER OF THE toast to the Bench the Bar and the Legal Profession at the last Trades Dinner contained allusions to some interesting episodes of the Calcutta High Court and also a very just apreciation of those attributes of the Judges which have contributed so largely to its popular [...] The Hon'ble the Chief Justice in a very apposite reply reminded his audience of what the master minds in England have considered to be the duty of the Judges to the people and his Lordship summed up by drawing pointed attention to the fact that nothing contributed more to the lasting goodwill of the people twards the Government than an impartial aministration of justice. [...] Integrity he said was the particular portion of the judges and a pure and impartial administration of justice was perhaps the firmest bond to secure the submission of the people and to engage their affections to the Government. [...] Their Lordships on the other hand laid stress specially on the conduct of the claimant in partcular his not offering himself to be examined in the case to explain matters which he alone could explain and the non-production of account books and other documents which onight have thrown light on the question and came to the conclusion that on the whole the claimant had failed to discharge the b [...] The SuDeputy Magistrate who tried the case was unable to find that the pond was in the undisturbed possession of the zemindar but he found that probably it did not appertain to the holding of the complainant.
