ON THE REOPENING OF THE COURTS AFTER THE Long Vacation the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council an 1 the House of Lords have been sitting concurrently the Lord Chancellor presiding in the Lords and Lord Macnaghten in the Privy Copcil. [...] LORD ALVERSTONE THE LORD CHIEF JUSTICE OF England in thanking the Sheriff of the City of London at the Lord Mayor's Dinner at Guildhall for the toast to the Judges of the Empire referred to the system of the administration of British justice as the greet work of their ancestors which has been accepted as a model not only throughout the length and breadth of the Empire but had won the admiration [...] For the non-payment of the balance of the purchase-money after the first deposit of 25 p. c. the Court under the new Code is not compelled to forfeit the first deposit but the Court has discretion to pass the order. [...] On the 27th July 1904 the Petitioner appealed against the said judgment and decree to the High Court of Judicature at Madras and therafter applied to the said High Court for an order for stay of execution of the said decree pending the hearing of the said appeal and whereupon an order was made granting the said stay subject to the Petitioner furnishing additional security to the value of Rs. [...] In the second suit in addition to the issue as to the respective liability of the Petitioners and the Respondents two further issses were raised namely whether the Plaintiffs in that suit were the owners of the cargo and whether they had any cause of action against the Defendants.
