At the time of the appointment of the Receiver the chattram was in the possession of the Defendants and the Plaintiff was in possession of the lands. [...] The Dfendant was not at the date of the suit in possession of the chattram though he was entitled to obtain possession under the order of the High Court. [...] The High Court issued the writ and the record of the proceedings of the Divisional Officer was sent up to the High Court. [...] The High Court has inherited al! the powers of the Supreme Court which had such jurisdiction and authority as the Justices of the King's Bench have and may lawfully exercise and the High Court of Madras has jurisdiction to issue writs of certiorari over the whole of the Madras Presidency. [...] The Dafendants-Annellants also obtained a Rule nisi from the High Court against the decree-holder and the said Rule was made absolute by the High Court on 29 h January 1913 and the attachment complained of removed pending he hearing of the appeal to this Court upon the Petitioners' furnising sufficient security to the satisfaction of the lower Court for the execution of the decree."
