The Lord Chief Justice expressed the greatest indination that a member of the Bench should be refused due preferment in his judicial career because of his political opinions and strong disapprobation of the principles of the Bill as also of the procedure adopted by the Lord Chancellor in introducing it. [...] L. P. E. Pugh) in the chair the following resolutions were passed:— On a careful consideration of the Report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee the Calcutta Bar is oopnion that the Chief Justices of the Chartered High Courts in India should as heretofore be continued to be appointed from amongst the members of the Bar. [...] A meeting of the Council of the Incorporated Law Society of Calcutta has passed the following resoltion:— In the opinion of the Incorporated Law Society of Calcutta the changes proposed in the Report of the Joint Committee on Indian constitutional reform affecing the constitution powers and status of the Calcutta High Court would be highly prejudicial to the adminitration of law and jus [...] "In particular the Society is of opinion that the proposal for throwing open the post of Chief Justice to the members of the Indian Civil Service the proposal for abolishing the ratio of barristers advocates and members of the Indian Civil Service regarding the constitution of the Bench of the High Corgis would be highly derogatory to the prestige status and powers of the High Courts and are b [...] The absence of such an addition however does not invalidate the signature of the testtor's name if in fact it was made as the law requires in the presence of and by the diretion of the testator.
