These terms had their appositeness in days when the rule of law was not universal and the function` of the lawyer was to intervene in order to extend its protection to the oppresed; and when the law had not been settled by decisions and the lawyer _had to evolve and establish the basic principles by draing. [...] As to honour they can lend themselves to the service of poor litigants and bring the remedy of the law within the reach of the poorer section of the commnity when they are subjected to oppression and injustice. [...] In both capacities they can if they are imbued with a true sense of their functions exercise a ceaseless vigilance so that the State may not curtail the liberties of the subject by autocratic legisltion and the Courts may not pervert the law to uses for which it was not meant and the humble and the oppressed may receive the benefit of the legal process. [...] In the agreement between the Plaintiff and the Defendants the two Plaintiff firms were described as pledgees and it provided that the pledgees will lend to the pledgors sums of money against the pledge of certain goods and there were other usual terms and conditions.
