So long the Government Pleader of Bengal used to look after the affairs of the Assam Government also in the High Court. [...] But it is doubtful whether a judiciary entirely under the control of the local administration would be a boon at the present moment so far as the liberty of the subject is concerned. [...] In this rest) eet we may follow the example of Oda where the jnclges of the Superior Courts are appointed by the Dominion Government and not the Provincial. [...] barristers of the Calcutta High Court have issued a statement condemning the alleged atrocities and calling upon the Government of Bengal in the interest of peace and amity in the province to dispense with the services of these policemen who have been mainly responsible for communal bitterness in the police force and to a large extent among members of the public.'? [...] Bengalees to fill up their vacancies." Since then the Calcutta Bar and the Calcutta Bar Association reprsenting the legal profession of the Calcutta High Court have also at their respective meetings adopted resolutions condemning the reported atrocities of a section of the imported Armed Police of the city and demanding their withdrawal.
