We hear to our consternation that apointments are likely in the near future to be made to the High Court Bench in Cacutta from among members of the Indian_ Civil Service. [...] Accustomed as they have been for years to a life of plain living and high thinking on a plane somewhat removed from the worry and the occasional sordiness of day-to-day administration they are the kind of people who are expected and rightly expected to inject a new spirit into the governance of our sorely harassed country. [...] As a matter of fact we have on many occasions and with the completest sincerity give expression to our appreciation wherever appreciation was due of the work done on the Bench by I. C. S. Judges: But we have always felt that it is only right and proper that apointments to the Bench are made only from among practising members of the par. [...] C. L.
