Referring to the President's Order etitled " Adaptation of Laws Order 1950 " a copy of which was sent to their Lordships after they had completed their judgment the Special Bench remarked that " the effect of the President's order was that the Jud5"I g THE CALCUTTA WEEKLY NOTES. [...] The members of the 'different branches' of the legal profession assemble-CI in a large number and the room was crowded to its fullest capacity. [...] The learned Advocate-General on behalf of the members of the English Bar made a feeling reference to the death of the emnent counsel in the following words :— " We mourn to-day the loss of a true patriot a great fighter for India's freedom an able parliamentarian and a great lawyer. [...] In 1946 he was elected the leader of the Congress Party in the Central Assembly and for three months he was a member of the Executive Council of the interim Goernment 'In November 1946 he resigned both from the Government and the Congress Committee and formed the Socialist Rpublican Party and later on the United Socialist Organisation. [...] He went on with the Congress so long as be could honestly share the views of the Congress but when he found that on fundamental matters he could not agree he did not hesitate to part company with that gallant band of people who were at the head of the Congress.
