If the object of punishment is primarily the firevention of crime the question of reforming the convict and bringing him back to the life of an honest citizen can legitimately claim precdence to many other minor matters and the solution of the problem is an ultimate gain to the State and to society at large. [...] This decree was varied by the Divisional Judge but the Chief Court of the Punjab on apeal restored the decree of the Subordinate Judge. [...] In the course of the liquidation proceedings the liquidators applied to the said Court to have it declared that certain debentures and trust-d were invalid as constituting undue or fraudule Preference of the said Bank and the other creditors 95"xcvi THE CALCUTTA WEEKLY NOTES. [...] The Munsif held that the kobala of the Defenant of 1268 B. S. was not genuine but the kobala of the Plain iff was and decreed the suit. [...] The Subordinate Judge in appeal by the Dfendants held that that the kobala executed by Rash Behary passed no title to the Plaintiff as he gave the kobala as administrator to the estate of Ram Kumar who was not the owner of the disputed land the owner being one Raj Bulluv a predecessor of Rash Behary.
