In connection with the new Municipal Bill for the Town of Calcutta now pending before the Bengal Legislative Council the Corporation of Calcutta has been invited by the Government to offer their suggestions on the provisions of the same. [...] dra Chunder Ghose as a Commissioner of the Corporation has raised the question as to whether women rate-payers of the city of Calcutta should continue to be deprived of the privilege of exercising their right of vote at the Municipal elections and whether the distinction of sex in the matter of voting should not be done away with in the premier city in India especially in view of the progressive [...] But the new Municipal Bill for that city as it has passed through the Select Committee of the Madras Legislative Council has done away with the ditinction of sex as affecting the status of ratpayers in the matter of voting at Municipal elections. [...] Judge admitted the appeal " subject to objection at the hearing." At the hearing of the appeal the Respondents did not take any objection to the order of the admission of the appeal. [...] The apeal was heard at length on the merits and the District Judge after holding on the.merits that the decree of the trial Court was erroneous went on to deal with the question of limitation.
