Long Vacation of the Calcutta High Court fall respectively on the 10th 11th and 12th November 1939 and the 20th and 21st Noember 1939: If the High Court closes for the Long Vacation next year towards the end of August and resumes its sittings on Moday at the end of the first week of Noveber as has been the case in recent years then the Court will again have to be closed for a week mo [...] Further if the High Court reopens next year at the end of the first week in November it will ropen a week ahead of the Civil Courts of Bengal which re-open the day after the Bhratriditia which would cause serious iconvenience and prejudice to the appellants as we have explained before and also cause dislocation of the work on the Appellate Side of the high Court. [...] We therefore endorse the views expressed nn the representation made by the Incorporated Law Society of Calcutta to the Hon'ble the Chief Justice and the Hon'ble Judges which is also supported by the Calcutta Bar and Advocates genrally who do not get full advantage of the Long Vacation. [...] To THE EDITOR CALCUTTA WEEKLY NOTES." DEAR STR I think it is desirable that the attention of members of the profession should be pointedly drawn to the direction that has been repeatedly given by their Lordships sitting on the Original Side that the bodies of petitions and affidavits should not be burdened by the setting out of correspodence between the parties or their attorneys. [...] 15 of the Police Act for the District Magistrate and that act by the Deputy Magistrate was illegal and ultra vires and therefore the Plaintiffs were entitled to recover under the notice the money paid by them.
