Attempts were however made to sow kharif crops about the end of June with moisture conserved from the showers of rain of 14.2 and 0.72" received on the 9th and 20th of June respectively and then in the end of July with 0.46" of rain received on 27th of the month. [...] The great scarcity of fodder for cattle indicates the severity of the famine in the locality."12 Such an abnormal season however established the necessity of leaving every year a part of the land fallow in Dry Farming areas. [...] the quantity of the manure each month varies in weight according to the availability of litter used under bullocks and the pecentage.of moisture in the finished product at the time of its application in the field. [...] For instance during the hot dry months of April and May the percentage of moisture is in the neighbourhood of 20 while during the rainy season the moisture content of the manure increased to 60 per cent. [...] The results of the yields of the k'tarif cro is arid the Ir oisture results of the plots under the same are discussed below :— Effect of different rotations on moisture content of the soil.— Moisture was estimated down to six feet depth in samples obtained before sowing and after harvesting from the plots under both the khalif crcps and those kept fallow.
