Situation and Description.—This station which is intended to work out the Agricultural problems of the North Konkan is situated in the village of Veshwi near Alibag in the district of Kolaba. [...] The figures of rain fall by fortnightly periods of the year together with the averages are given in the following statement. [...] The main station at Veshwi aims at the improvement of rice and oth.er crops suitable to the lowlying fields; the sub-statiou at Ba adhan includes the development of the uplands; and finally the plot at Varsoli has for its object the imprd'vement of Manat (sticky impervious flat) soils. [...] 9. Economy of Rub materials.—In the same Memoir it has been stated that the quantity of rab materials " could be reduced to at most one quarter of the amount at present used if instead of its being spread over the surface of the soil the lattsr could be burnt in heaps." In order to find out how far this could be accomplished in actual practice an experiment has been in progress for the last th [...] in the case of dhaincha while in the case of san the outturn is actually less than that of the no manure plot.
