Indian Central Jute Committee. Technological Research. Memoir No. 5. The ballistic Work of Rupture of Twisted Bundles of jute Fibre and Its Relation to Spinning Quantity
1944
The results obtained on fifteen samples of jute covering practically the entire range of fibre qualities indicate that with twisted bundles the variation of work of rupture with twist is much similar to the variation of the strength of yarns with twist. [...] In the same way pending experiments designed to include a direct examination of weaving behaviour we may prefer the measurement of the ballistic work of rupture of bundles of fibre to the measurement of their tensile strength. [...] W —Graduated wheel which records the amount of twist inserted ; the bundle is first freed of any residual twist by rotating the chuck Cr to the neossary amount and the zero reading of the wheel adjusted to correspond with the pointer P ; the screw S is then tightened to keep the wheel rigidly fixed to its axle.( 6 ) by the standard procedure (2) is expressed in spyndles the ballistic work of rupt [...] From these 15 results the coefficient of correlation between the quality ratio of the yarn and the work of rupture of the fibre( 7 ) Comps mos to 0'896 (highly significant` the average fractional s.c. [...] o'7 in the bundles of fibre the co-efficient of correlation between the quality ratio of the yarn and the ballistic work of rupture of the fibre in the case of fifteen samples; is found to be o'866 and the average fractional s.e.
