[...] With the gieat change in the course of the river at Alor the main channel of the Hakrah which flowed past Wanjriit ceased to flow owing to the loss of most of its tributaries and failure of others while the new stream the Indus increased in volume and became a great river by the accession of five of those tributaries. [...] But Sind had to bear the brunt of the iconoclastic attacks of the Arabs fresh from the cradle of Islam and suffered accordingly ; and since that time the province had been under the intolerant rule of the Muhammadans when the Hindu so far as his idolatrous practices went had to lie low.
