1933

(vii) In connection with the drainage improvements to the Shiyali taluk in the Tanjore district plans and estimates for improvements to the Nallur and Kittianai Uppanar and for the formation of a diversion bank for the Coleroon in the limit3 of Kattur and Mahendrappalli. [...] Character of the seasons.—In the Deccan the rainfall was on the whole satisfactory except in the canal tract of the Sholapur Collectorate where it was poor. [...] The decrease in the areas irrigated was due to the copious rainfall during the year and the fall in the price of rice. [...] The expenditure incurred up to the end of the year on the construction of locks and sluices in the Lower Kumar river and the Madaripur Bil. [...] The work of checking the wideing of the chord cut of the Twante canal was recommended as eiVion still continues ; the work is being executed with due regard to the larger proposal for widening the canal to meet the increase in volume of traffic.
