The decrease in the area irrigated in the Punjab is due to late and short supplin the rivers during 1931-32 and 1932-33 to heavy rains in August 1931 which resulted in large areas being sown and matured without the aid of canal water to the universal f all in the prices of agricultural commodities and to the tranfer of the Muzaffargarh inundation canals from the productive " to the " u[...] The prject involve(i) the construction of a large dam on the Cauvery at Mettur the object of the dam being to store the flood waters of the river and to pass them down to the delta as and when required ;6 (ii) the construction of an irrigation canal (the Grand Anicut Canal) taking off on the right bank of the Cauvery ; and (iii) the improvement and extension of the existing Vadavar canal i [...] A conference of the officers of the Governments of Hyderabad and Madras was held in February 1933 with a view to the execution of the Tungabhadra project as a joint scheme for both Governments and the preparation of the estimates for the project has been taken up. [...] During the winter months there was general rainfall at the end of October and again in the first week of March in the tracts commanded by the Ganges and the Sarda canals. [...] The other works completed during the triennium were the Belasagar tank in the Hamirpur district and the remodelling of portions of the Betwa canal system.
