It further discusses the origin of the Loktak Lake the general characters of its fauna and flora and the chemical coposition of the water of the lake. [...] The lake itself occupies one of the several depressions met with in the Manipur valley most of which dry up more or less during the colder season the Loktak Lake being the only one of the lakes formed during the monsoon which cotains some water all the year round. [...] Annandle draws attention to the luxuriance of the vegetation of the lake which gives the latter the character of a large swamp. [...] 4. In the Loktak form the diameter of the trichome is 2.5/4 the length of the cells is 4-6 p; there is a large granule situated on either side of the partition and the contents are very finely granular almost homogeneous and bluish-green. [...] IV p. The dimensions of the Loktak specimens vary considerably the length of the cells varying between 9 and 18p the width between 3 and 61 and the length of the spines varying between 9 and I5p 14.
