Consequently no attempt has been made to find the probable value of the raifall over the selected areas and the correlations of the matured area of crop have been made simply with the rainfall at the chief town of the Tahsil in which the villages are situated. [...] That the ratio of the roomean-square of the differences to the standard deviation is much larger for the summer than for the winter rains appears to indicate that a smaller error will be made in taking the rainfall measured at one point as a measure of the true rainfall at another neighbouring point in the latter case than in the former. [...] For the calculation of the coefficients for the rainfall the figures have been taken to the nearest TV and for the areas of the crops to the nearest io acres. [...] bquations are :- For the regression of crop on rain CK=53.25I RK+1914-4 and for the regression of rain on crop C K 250.74 RK Figure 1 shows the distribution of crop and rainfall the ordinates of the point marked with small closed curves giving the crop and the abscissae of these points the rainfall corresponding according to the scale given in the diagram. [...] It has already been pointed out that in predicting the amount of crop from a knowledge of the rainfall what is actually predicted is the amount of crop which is if the regression be linear the mean of the ' array' of values corresponding to the given value of the rainfall.
