Annual Report on the Working of Co-Operative Societies in the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh for the Year 1915-1916

Of the money-producing crops the outturn in the ease of cotton was small owing to the low prices of the previous year and( 2 ) the anticipations of the cultivator and the Agricultural department that these conditions would persist. [...] necessity of a provision for summary recovery in the case of liquidation of the nature referred to in paragraph 87 of the report of the Committee on Co-operation and actually in force in Bihar and I venture to press upon the Government the urgency of such a step. [...] It was considered desirable to utilize the opportunity afforded by the issue of the conversion loan to the full and by pooling the allotments of all banks to this year's reserve and employing such other owned funds apart from the working capital as were available to secure the maximum amount of ' conversion warrants for the banks which held the old paper. [...] The stresses of the last three years have searched out the society of spurious co-operative quality and the result of the ordeal has certainly been a great increase in concentration on the part of the directorates on the problems before them. [...] The postponements in the remainder of the province are confined to the normal cases of special damage to a society from flood or hail and are not of the same type as the wholesale postponements in the west.
