This is chiefly due to the fact that the pay offered is inadequate and no stipend is allowed during the period of training:3 IGENERAL PROGRESS 4. The following table shows the growth in the number of socities membership and their working and owned capital during the last three years : General. [...] 8. The number of Central Non-Credit Societies rose from 327 to 347 the membership from 6.38 lakhs to 7.87 lakhs the working capital from Rs.66.19 lakhs to Rs.97.26 la khs and the owned capital from Rs.35.55 lakhs to Rs.51.06 lakhs. [...] The percentage of owned capital to working capital came down slightly from 57.4 to 53 which was due to the increase in the working capital on account of the new societies regitered. [...] The departmental policy being only to register village banks no new society of unlimited liability was registered and due to cacellations and conversions the number of societies fell from 5 418 to 5 270 and the membership from 1.19 lakhs to 1.17 lakhs ; but the average membership per society remained the same as in the previous year viz. [...] In the centrals the number of individual members rose from 199 to 239 and the number of societies from 328 to 358.
