Report on the Cawnpore Agricultural Station in the United Provinces for the Year Ending 30th June 1916

1916

The advantage of the removal of the old dividing ridges between the plots and the improvement of the diainage is now becoming obvious in the more uniform stand of crops. [...] One harrowing was given to the green manured plots on the 17th August and the usual cultivation at the end of the rains. [...] The increase in straw being even higher than that of the grain would indicate that the effect of the superphosphate has been to improve the decomposition of the green manure as the application of phosphates alone does not oause this effect at Cawnpore. [...] It was intended to apply the sodium nitrate as a top-dressing in December and the application in October was a mistake on the part of the fieldman in charge of the farm. [...] In the last ease the application of nitrates has to some extent compensated for the lack of cultivation the yield from the plot manured with nitrate being very fair consdering the date of sowing.
