'Burr's letter and on the understanding that he have the sole control of the expenditure that the Company advance from Revenue the sum of Rs. [...] 3 000 to the Municipal Commissioners at Jumalpore in anticipation of the usual assement to be expended on the European part of the Town within the Railway boundary. [...] A few months ago I ordered soundings to be taken in the channel of the Poon Peon River above and below the Bridge and I then learned with regret (I cannot say with surprise because as I have frequently stated I apprehend danger to all our Bridges founded on inverts) that the bottom of the River above and below the Bridge had been scoured to the level of the foundations. [...] The enclosed estimate shews the probable cost of the stone and pavement—it is very small when compared with that incurred at the Kurrumnassa as it is hoped that the stones may be conveyed by rail from the Monghyr Hills and the Tunnel. [...] At a Meeting of the Municipality this morning the subject of the immediate neces sity for Repairing the Roads was brought forward and it was agreed that as far as praticable the entire of the Company's monthly assessment be placed at my disposal for Rpairing the Roads in the European part of the town."( 10 ) Extract from Appendix I.—(Continuecl Money was the difficulty and on this poin
