[...] With the kindest solicitude the Vedanta points out to aspiring men and women the numerous roads hewn out of the solid rock of the realities of human life by the glorious sons or human manifestations of God in the past and in the present and stands with oustretched arms to welcome all—to welcome even those that are yet to be—to that Home of Truth and that Ocean of Bliss wherein the human [...] Swami Viveknanda taught hoW to blend spiritual well-being with material advancement how to integrate science religion and philosophy and how to combine the ideals of the East and the methods of the West for the attainment of peace and the liberation of the human spirit. [...] And because of their failure to understand the truth of this dictum they try to run away from the world and its activities and will resort to any means even to the extreme measure of self-torture in their attempt to overcome the passions of the flesh. [...] The Vedanta tells us that the first requisites for spiritual life are discrimination between the real and the unreal between the eternal and the non-eternal; the understanding of the truth that God alone is real; and the giving up of all desires and cravings except the one desire to realize God.
