The exercise of too much authority on the part of the father or the head of the family is an indefensible form of benevolent despotism which whether in the case of the family or of the state does not allow the individual to grow to his full height. The World's Fair at Chicago was to come off soon and something seemed to tell him that an international assembly of preachers and divines of different faiths like the Parliament of Religions would be a great opportunity for bringing Hinduism to the hearing of the Western world.
