Most of the Greek writers have given the names of their own gods to the angels of the Zoroastrians according to the resemblance of the position and the work allotted to them. [...] In Europe the splendour and majesty of Mithra was especially due to the fact that the emperors nobles and the legionaries were his supporters and they used to order the persecution of the Christians The persecution of the Christians by the Emperor Decius in the year 250 A. D. is well known in Roman history.
