In the last report of the Director of Public Instruction mention is made of the inconvenience caused by the late arrival of the papers from the London Chamber and this is one instance of the difficulties involved in an examination by this body. [...] As the President of the Vernacular Text-books Revision Committee and the Director of Public Instruction are now tgreed that in the face of the strongly expressed opposition to the prop sed modifications it is not expedient to introduce a new method of spekling in the first edition of the new text-books and as Government in a recent resolution endorse that opinion the urgency of the question ha [...] AT a meeting of the Senate of the Calcutta University Sir Gurudas Banerjee moved that as the method by which the provisional Syndicate had been elected was in contravention of the provisions of the statute the Senate could not consider the provisional Syndicate's recommendations.
